Today, Major League Baseball threw down the gavel by suspending four players from the Easter Sunday brawl between the Milwaukee Brewers and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
The brawl was sparked when Brewers’ Carlos Gomez hits a triple off Pirates’ pitcher Gerrit Cole. As Gomez watches his fly-ball in admiration thinking it was a home run that is when Cole exchanged some demeaning words with Gomez. Gomez charged after Cole causing both teams to rush onto the field. The league fined Travis Snider and Russell Martin of the Pirates and Martin Maldonado of the Brewers who all were central figures in the on-field brawl. The players were suspended and fined an undisclosed amount.
The following players were subjected to suspensions and fines by the league:
• Gomez — three games
• Maldonado — five games
• Snider — two games
• Martin — one game
